As a beauty journalist I often get asked by friends and associates to recommend my favourite new health and beauty products. Despite the seemingly endless supply of amazing new lotions and potions that end up on my desk (for which I am very grateful by the way), one product that always features somewhere in my top ten is an oldie but goodie - Clinique Wrappings Perfume.

For those of you old enough to remember, Wrappings for Women was Clinique's second fragrance, introduced in 1990. It is said to enjoy a cult following. According to the company, the intent was to create a link between clothing and fragrance, something to be reached for automatically each morning, and worn with great pleasure. Personally, I only wear it on special occasions - it is much too precious and hard to find to wear on a daily basis.

The juice features a complex blend of ingredients, such as basil, sage artemesia, jasmine, hyacinth, cypress, vetiver and oak moss. It is described as light, fresh, clean - and very distinctive, as fans will testify. It is the only perfume which regularly causes strangers to stop and ask me my fragrance.

For some inexplicable reason, the fragrance was discontinued by Clinique several years ago and is only released occasionally in limited supplies. Clinique also appears to favour its US customers, with holiday gift sets popping up on the other side of the Atlantic more frequently than on European shores.

So, imagine my excitement when earlier this year I received a press release that Clinique would be re-introducing its Wrappings women's fragrance to the Europe/Middle East/Africa travel retail region, for a period of approximately six months. Being a regular traveller, I planned to stock up on supplies to last me well into the future. I was also careful not to let the secret slip, lest word got out to other die-hard fans. Sadly, I have yet to see any in the airport shopping lounges of London, Amsterdam or Barcelona, and now I fear it is too late. Perhaps they just sold out very quickly, or another beauty journo got there first?
