Crocheting as a skill is similar to knitting. The two art forms differ from each other in the terms of materials used and the finished product. As its crocheting, we are discussing, without any further elaboration on knitting, we move straight to our subject. This article is a beginners' guide to crocheting.
Raw Material for Crocheting.
• A crochet hook
• Yarn
• Measuring tape or ruler
• Straight pins
• Yarn needles
Fundamental Crocheting Steps for Preparing Basic Knotty Chain.
A beginner at crocheting should use an H/5.00 mm hook and a brightly colored yarn to facilitate an easy visibility of stitches. Also, begin with something easy and enjoyable. Crocheting always begins with a foundation knotted chain, which is a row of Vs. To make this chain you need to do four things:
• Make a slipknot.
• Put your hook through the slipknot and bring the yarn over the hook.
• Pull the yarn through the slipknot so that you now have two stitches.
• Continue with the above steps until you get a foundation chain with at least eleven stitches.
Now crochet has three types, Single Crochet, Double Crochet, and Treble Crochet.
Single Crocheting.
• After making the foundation chain, insert the hook into the ridge, which is the piece of yarn under the V shape of the second chain.
• Pull the yarn through the ridge to have two loops.
• Now bring and pull the yarn through the two loops.
• Insert the hook and pull the yarn through the next ridge.
• Again, pull the yarn through the two loops.
• Repeat until you reach the end of the row. Make sure that you have ten single crochets on your hook.
• Now to begin the next row, turn around your work so that the hook is again at the beginning point.
• Insert the hook under two top loops and draw the yarn through to have two loops.
• Again, bring the yarn over the hook and draw it through the two loops.
• Continue until you reach the end of the row and make sure that you have ten single crochets on your hook.
Double Crocheting.
• Make a loose chain of twelve stitches.
• Insert the hook into the fourth chain after yarning over.
• Repeat it once more and pull the yarn through to get three loops.
• Bring the yarn over and pull it through the first two loops to get two loops now.
• Again, yarn over and pull the yarn through the remaining two loops.
• Insert hook into the next chain and yarn over. Do it once more and pull the yarn through the chain so that you now have three loops.
• Next yarn over and pull through the first two loops.
• Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops.
• Repeat these steps until you reach the end of the row. Make sure that you have ten stitches at the end.
• You have to chain three now before you begin the next row.
• Turn around your work and double crochet into the two top loops of the previous row.
• Continue until you reach the end of the row, making sure that you have ten double crochets on your hook.
Treble Crocheting. In treble crochet, which is the tallest, you start with thirteen loosely chained stitches and proceed as you did with the earlier two crochet stitches.
To finish off from any type of crocheting, cut the yarn and make a tight knot.
