my research: WOMEN are more caring than MEN....true?

wat would u do if u saw a girl who looks really sad and looks like she has been crying...my project is to act differently and observe how ppl react (has nothing to do w/the VA shooting)

Experiment for Nonverbal Communication class
Purpose: Write a paper on ppl's reaction to me looking sad
Setting: market and class

Questions: How would u react if u saw a sad woman (mid-20s) w/smeared makeup, watery eyes, etc? Would u distance yourself? Say anything? Pretend to not notice? Approach me?

I think women would react differently than men (who would prolly pretend not to notice)

INPUT: MEN especially, how would u react? I"m looking for body movments, facial expressions, and spoken words

I do not actually think that either is more caring than the opposite gender. They just approach it in a different way.

Usually men shy away and feel uncomfortable - especially with a stranger - to show that they care although they will in private with people they are close to.

Women in some ways are more receptive and verbal and don't shy away - not a sign of weakness - to help a stranger in distress..though that might apply to many men mind you also.

Women are more prone to listening and lend a sympathetic ear if the need is there..because sometimes that is all what they need : someone to listen, that is all, and advice if they ask to. Sometimes a woman only does need that : a shoulder to cry on and other women kind of understand that and relate. Let the stuff out : it is good for the soul.

A man will IN GENERAL be the "fix it"..and approach the situation in an intellectual way. They are more likely to offer suggestions like "you have to do this, you have to do that" as a show of support. It is their way of showing care which might not always be understood. They are "in general" again more pro-active.

Men do care too ( and have feelings too) but their approach can be somewhat different. Doing stuff for you, randomly offering you a CD...shows that "I care". Or offers to fix something in your house whatever it is : to them it means "I care about you" : I am willing to spend my time and effort for you. But most of the times women just do not see it that way at all.

Women react differently. I would not give you a CD for ex. to make you feel better..I would listen..but then I am a woman..

That is really general mind you...guys get pissed off too in their own way when they think they showed they cared..and their gestures were rejected or not taken very seriously.
